About the Webinar:

What is the fundamental difference between hospice and palliative medicine? What are the 2 components of the advanced directive?  What is the main purpose of the family conference?  Please join us as Dr.Edward Creagan answers these questions and shares his expertise as the first Mayo Clinic consultant board certified in hospice and palliative medicine.

Learning Objectives:
  • Understand the distinction between palliative medicine and hospice medicine.
  • Recognize the components of the advance directive with a focus on the proxy/surrogate and the level of care consistent with the patient's wishes.
  • Integrate the psychosocial dimension of the patient in end-of-life discussions.
  • Appreciate the profound emotional  and medical advantage  of incorporating the palliative care community in patient care (earlier rather than later).
