About the Speaker:
Lynne S. Padgett, PhD
Health and Rehabilitation Psychologist

Dr. Padgett is a rehabilitation psychologist who has worked in multiple healthcare and cancer care settings, including Emory University, School of Medicine, Kaiser Permanente, Hospital Medicine and the Washington, D.C. Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Her clinical focus is on helping cancer patients and survivors negotiate cancer-related distress and symptoms, including psychosocial symptoms and fatigue, sleep, and cancer-related cognitive impairment. She works closely with rehabilitation and palliative care and views their services as essential to high-quality cancer care.

Dr. Padgett’s research has focused on the implementation of evidenced based care in community cancer settings, cognitive effects of cancer, and measurement of psychosocial distress and symptoms and cancer survivorship. She served as a Program Director at the National Cancer Institute from 2011-2015, and in that role provided expertise in cancer survivorship and palliative care for the participating hospitals in the National Cancer Institute (NCI) in the Community Cancer Center Program (NCCCP). She also managed a portfolio of research in cognitive outcomes in pediatric and adult cancer survivorship, palliative care, cancer rehabilitation and distress screening. As the Strategic Director for Hospital Systems at the American Cancer Society (ACS), Dr. Padgett’s work included collaborations with the Commission on Cancer and the Academy of Oncology Nurse and Patient Navigators. This worked focused on implementation of initiatives aimed at integrating quality cancer care in community and academic cancer centers. These initiatives are across the cancer and included patient navigation, survivorship, cancer rehabilitation and palliative care.

Her work with other organizations includes cancer related cognitive impairment through the American College of Rehabilitation Medicine and as a member of the National Cancer Institute Research Network focused on integrating emotion and decision science perspectives into palliative care decision making.

Dr. Padgett completed her PhD in counseling psychology with an emphasis in behavioral medicine and research design and statistics from the University of Memphis. She completed her post-doctoral fellowship in rehabilitation psychology at Emory University Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. She has worked in the School of Medicine at Emory University, and as a rehabilitation and health psychologist for Kaiser Permanente Department of Hospital Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia.
